When it comes to basketball sneakers, adidas had some early success in the 70s with the adidas Superstar and the Adidas Top Ten – two greats that have stood the test of time - with the Superstar still hailed as an all-time classic to this day.
Heading into the late 70s and early 80s, things took a turn for the three stripes. They were pitched the Air Unit, but turned it down. Then in 1984, upcoming superstar Michael Jordan was about to begin his rookie NBA season, and he was open to signing a sneaker contract, and was really keen to sign with adidas, but they didn’t close the deal…
